Oxygen Concentrators

An oxygen concentrator or oxygen machine is a device that uses zeolite or molecular SIEVE to seperate oxygen and nitrogen molecules from room air. A pump is used to bring in room air which is comprised of 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen. Room air is then forced through a column containing the SIEVE material. Molecular SIEVE or zeolite used in oxygen concentrators is made from zeolite powder and bentonite clay in most cases. The composition of molecular SIEVE allows oxygen molecules to pass through or permeate the SIEVE. Nitrogen molecules are too big to pass through the SIEVE and are exhausted out of the machine back into room air. Concentrated oxygen molecules are then collected and stored in a product tank and the resulting oxygen rich air is delivered to the patient.
